MORAY Community Health and Social Care Partnership is hosting two mental health and wellbeing briefings ahead of Suicide Prevention Week.
Health professionals, as well as people from other organisations and the voluntary sector, will be in attendance.
Tony McLaren – the national co-ordinator for Breathing Space and NHS Living Life which both offer a free and confidential helpline for anyone experiencing low mood, depression or anxiety – will be the keynote speaker.
Mr McLaren said the workshops would be an ideal opportunity to highlight what services are available nationally and locally.
He added “It’s important that people don’t bottle up their feelings and let problems get out of hand. A positive first step is talking about how you feel.
“Our advisors at Breathing Space can listen and provide information and advice over the phone.
“We also have Living Life self-help coaches and therapists who provide telephone support by helping people to understand some of the reasons behind their feelings of stress and anxiety.”
Mr McLaren will be joined by local experts, who will highlight developments in the services provided that include free stress control courses, suicide prevention training and self-harm awareness. As well as offering a networking opportunity, there will be information and other resources available.
The first briefing takes place in The Gallery at Elgin Library on Thursday, September 5 from 6.30-8pm, with a light supper provided.
Elgin Town Hall will be the location for the second briefing, which will take place the following day from 9.30am to midday.
Places can be booked by contacting Geraldine Waterston, health improvement team administrator, on 01343 567138 or email email@example.com before Thursday, August 29.
