A MAJOR roads project that promises to improve traffic flow in Moray has taken a step forward with the awarding of a £130,000 contract.
Halcrow has now been appointed to tackle the Strategic Environmental Assessment work for dualling approximately 86 miles of the A96 between Inverness and Aberdeen.
As part of the contract, the company will assess the potential environmental impacts of the proposed dualling programme.
The dualling will encompass Moray, and Moray councillors have already urged officials to consider Elgin and Keith as priority areas.
Last week, it was highlighted that it would be 12 to 18 months before potential corridors for dual carriageway bypasses for Elgin and Keith are identified.
The Scottish Government has set a target of 2030 for the entire length of the A96 to be dualled.
