A MAN charged with the murder of a North East pensioner has pleaded not guilty.
Brian McKandie, who has family in Buckie, was found dead at his home at Badenscoth, near Rothienorman, Aberdeenshire, on March 12, 2016.
Steven Sidebottom appeared earlier today at the High Court in Glasgow where he lodged a special defence of alibi.
The 24-year-old is accused of repeatedly striking Mr McKandie with an unidentified blunt implement or implements and robbing him.
He is also charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice by removing a bath, a sink, a basin, pipe works, carpeting, flooring and other items from a chalet in Rothienorman, between December 22 last year and February this year.
Two further charges relate to theft and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
The trial, which the prosection has estimated will last about a month, is due to begin at the High Court in Aberdeen on January 29.
