MORAY’S representative on the Great British Bake Off has rolled into the second round of the competition.

Norman Calder (right) from Portknockie wowed the often harsh judges, Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, with his 36 miniature almond cakes which were described as “perfect”.

Although his technical bake – a classic Mary Berry iced cherry cake – came 11th out of 12, Norman’s Black Forest-inspired Swiss roll proved popular.

The second episode of the fifth series will be aired on Tuesday (August 12) on BBC1 when the bakers will be tasked with creating biscuits.
