THE Clavie burned bright in Burghead on Saturday night, with a record-breaking crowd turning out to witness the annual festival of fire.
An estimated 4,000 people lined the streets of Burghead, to celebrate the beginning of the Pictish New Year.
Starting with the lighting of the Clavie on Granary Street, around 15 members of the Clavie crew hoisted the burning barrel onto their shoulders and carried it on a route around the village.
It was then carried to Doorie Hill, where it was doused in more fuel to create a spectacular finale (see video below).
Clavie king Dan Ralph said it was the largest crowd he had seen.
He also thanked the public, and the members of the emergency services, for helping to ensure the event’s success.
"It was well enjoyed. It was absolutely great and it puts the Broch on the map for the right reason," he said.
