A CONTRACT worth tens of millions of pounds to post offices is vital to help protect the future of local branches, according to Moray MP Angus Robertson.
Mr Robertson said 1,500 members of the public have already signed postcards sent to him, from Moray postmasters, which back a campaign by the National Federation of Sub Postmasters (NFSP) to be handed a new DVLA contract by the UK Government.
The MP said the new contract is worth £60 million, and if signed, could safeguard the future of more rural post offices as margins become tighter.
Post offices already offer some DVLA services, such as providing tax discs and processing driving licenses, but the full contract would expand the level of service and allow them to complete more government work.
