Convenience store closed after fire

AN ELGIN convenience store has been closed as a result of smoke damage caused by a fire.

The Premier Store, which serves the South Lesmurdie and Kingsmills area of Elgin, will remain closed until next week.

Two crews of firefighters tackled the blaze at the Premier Store on Newmill Road on Tuesday night.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that their Elgin crews were called out just after 9.20pm, and the last one left the scene shortly before 1am.

No-one was hurt in the fire, which is believed to have started in an office in the store, which was subsequently gutted.

Owners Kenny and Pamela McKenzie also run a second store in New Elgin.
