A RESTAURANT has been granted Elgin’s first 24-hour fast food licence.
McDonalds, located at Linkwood Place, has had its late night licence extended to serve food until 5am every morning.
Taking its opening hours into account, the decision by Moray Council’s licensing committee means that the restaurant will be open around the clock.
Members of the licensing committee voted 8-2 in favour of the changes at their meeting on Wednesday.
At present, McDonald’s is open until midnight each Sunday to Thursday and until 2am on Friday and Saturday.
The vote came in spite of an objection from Police Scotland, who voiced opposition due to potential public nuisance concerns and a possible increased risk of antisocial behaviour.
Between 10 and 15 full-time jobs are expected to be created.
