POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an Elgin fire, which they believe was started deliberately.

Fifteen straw bales were destroyed in the blaze behind Moycroft Industrial Estate last night.

The fire, which is thought to be suspicious, began at around 9pm near the recycling centre.

By the time police and fire crews arrived, the bales were well alight.

Constable Ross McDonald, who is leading the enquiry, said: "We are treating the blaze as having been started deliberately at this time.

"I would ask that anyone who may have seen a person or vehicle acting suspiciously in the area of the Moycroft Industrial Estate to make contact with the police".

Anyone with information should call Grampian Police on 0845 6005700 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
