THE boating pond in Elgin's Cooper Park is to be drained later this month to allow work to contnue on the town's flood alleviation scheme.
According to Moray Council, draining the pond will enable work to begin on a wall and embankment, which will form part of the £86 million flood defences.
The draining process will begin on February 17, and is expected to take around a week.
It is hoped that the pond will be filled in early June. In the meantime, temporary fencing will be installed for safety reasons.
