Fire family overwhelmed by generosity

THE spirit of people in Moray ensured a family who lost their home in a fire enjoyed a great Christmas.

More than 500 presents of food, clothing, toys and household essentials, as well as cash donations, came pouring in as the community rallied behind the family.

John Law, partner Hazel Laing and their seven children, aged six to 20, have been overwhelmed at the community reaction to their plight.

The Dufftown couple, both in their late 40s, and the children spent Christmas Day enjoying food and presents donated by individuals and businesses after their home was gutted and all their belongings destroyed.

"They are overwhelmed," said close friend Valerie Patterson. "John, Hazel and the kids have been inundated with gifts."

Added Valerie: "John would like people to know that the family is very grateful for everything they have received and he will get round to talking to everybody when he feels up to it.

"The community spirit is just amazing."
