Fire in Elgin town centre

FIRE crews tackled a blaze in the centre of Elgin in the early hours of Sunday.

Engines from nearby Elgin Fire Station raced to the scene just after midnight.

A derelict building to the rear of the Jimmy Chung restaurant was on fire.

The roads around the scene were cordoned off and it is understood that a number of residents in nearby properties had to be evacuated.

Police and ambulance crews were also at the scene.

Firefighters battled to bring the fire under control. The flames could be seen across Elgin.

Police remained at the scene earlier today as investigations continued.
