A CAMPAIGN to save Fochabers Police Station has been launched.
Police Scotland is currently consulting on reducing the public counter service at offices across the country.
This includes axeing the public desk at Fochabers, which is open from 8.30am to 4.15pm, Wednesday to Friday.
Sean Morton, Labour councillor for the village and the surrounding area, is behind the campaign and has set up an online petition.
He said: “This comes completely out of the blue, but we should have been expecting it, because the single force is all about saving money and less about delivering for local communities.
During a four-week period in January this year, a survey showed that 66 people visited the counter at Fochabers Police Station.
Councillor Morton said: “I have a problem with a snapshot survey rather than one that has been carried out over a long period of time."
The petition will be available at various locations throughout the Fochabers and Lhanbryde ward and can be signed online at www.seanmorton.org.uk
