Forres hit by Moray floods

FORRES is on flood alert due to dangerously high levels being reported on the River Findhorn.

Moray Council have announced that a rest centre is being prepared at Forres Community Centre and will be available in the event that any homes have to be evacuated.

A council spokesperson said water levels at the Broom of Moy are giving cause for concern and the next two hours or so are likely to be critical.

There is also concern that the river may burst its banks close to the A96 immediately west of Forres.

Homes have already been evacuated in Elgin in communities where the River Lossie is threatening to top its banks.

A rest centre has been set up at Elgin High School for residents who have been evacuated.
