MORAY athlete Frankie Barton is heading to the Olympics after all.
The 56-year-old Keith and District Runner missed out on selection for the St Kitts and Nevis Olympic team in the marathon.
However, he has received a VIP invite to the country’s Olympic reception at the St Kitts and Nevis High Commission in London on Saturday.
Barton, a Moray Council community care officer, will meet the Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas, the High Commissioner Kevin Isaac and the seven-strong Olympic squad, including sprinter Kim Collins.
Barton, from Craigellachie, said: "I am really chuffed as I didn’t expect this at all. I am excited at the prospect of meeting the Prime Minister and get to see all the athletes," he said.
"It would be great if I could get a training session with these guys when I am down there and maybe see some of the Olympics," he added.
