FABRICATOR to opera singer might not be the most obvious career path - but it was the course taken by George Emney.
It is a journey he will be recalling fondly on Thursday night while entertaining the crowd at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness.
The trained baritone interspersed anecdotes about life in the oil sector with operatic song.
George was one of the 5000-strong workforce at the Highland Fabricators Yard at Nigg between 1978 and 1981 and did several stints on rigs in the North Sea after that.
He said: "Working alongside folk from Forres, Elgin, Nigg and the Black Isle, we witnessed enviable feats that harkened back to the great Victorian Engineers.
"But the desire to be a good engineer was always in conflict with a hidden desire to sing."
An Evening of Song and Anecdotal Memories of Nigg will be at Eden Court on Thurday from 7:30pm.
Tickets, £13, available online.
