AN APPLICATION to build a new food unit at Baxters of Fochabers, to help accommodate the production of the company’s future Fray Bentos range, has been approved by Moray Council.
Baxters acquired Fray Bentos for an undisclosed sum at the end of last year, in a move that is creating between 100 and 125 jobs locally.
Moray Council announced this week that it had approved the planning application for a 1,720 square metre expansion to the company’s food producing plant in Fochabers, paving the way for work to start.
A Moray Council spokesman said permission was granted within six weeks of the application being submitted – well inside government targets.
Councillor Stewart Cree, chairman of the council’s planning and regulatory services committee, said the approval “reflected the improvement in the council’s performance in planning, and its commitment to facilitating sustainable development to the benefit of the Moray economy and its community.”
