Lossiemouth Raft Race today

CREWS will take to the water this afternoon for Lossiemouth Raft Race.

The event, which starts at 3pm, is expected to attract hundreds of spectators to the coastal town to enjoy the competition.

RAF Lossiemouth and Moray Council have organised the race, with profits going to three charities – MFR Cash For Kids, Moray Inshore Rescue Organisation and Outfit Moray.

Last year house builder Tulloch of Cummingston became the main sponsors of the event, but the race had to be cancelled because of very high winds.

Sergeant Sarah Tompkins-Le, one of the race organisers, said although this year’s race will not have a theme, she hopes families will still support the fundraiser

She added: "For our younger visitors Lego Batman, Carl the Minion and Doc McStuffins will be coming along as our special guests.

"Fifteen teams have entered so we’re expecting a good race.

"I hope everyone will come along, have a great time cheering on the teams, and help us raise money for our three chosen charities."

Prizes will be awarded for the best team costume and raft design, as well as the race winners – who will get the famous toilet seat trophy.
