Rhoda Grant, Labour MSP, today signed the community petition against any closure plans for Milne’s High School in Fochabers.

The closure of the school with children relocated to other secondary schools, is one of the options under consideration as part of a sustainable education review by Moray Council.

The authority insists no decisions have yet been taken and want to listen to all views before reaching a blueprint for the future.

Mrs Grant met parents and local business leaders in Fochabers today (Friday).

She said: "The passion and the need for the school came through loud and clear and I am hoping that the council will listen to what parents are saying and recognise the value of the school."

"Any councillor in Moray would say they are looking for the best outcome for the community. They are the decision-makers, they are bound to do that in a way that is proper and transparent."

Lisa Farley, spokeswoman for the Milne’s Action Group, added: "The campaign is so important to the community. We want to get as much awareness as possible.

"It is fantastic that Rhoda has come down and is lending her support."
