MORAY MSP Richard Lochhead has met with Scotland’s education chief to press the case for a new Elgin High School.
Mr Lochhead today met with Michael Russell MSP, the Scottish Government’s cabinet secretary for education and lifelong learning, at the Scottish Parliament.
Mr Lochhead said he told the cabinet secretary that the school estate was in "urgent need of replacement" to ensure it is able to deliver "the best possible educational environment" for both pupils and staff.
Pointing out that Moray Council has lodged a funding bid for the new school, Mr Lochhead said: "The Scottish Government will soon be taking decisions on new schools investment and I put the case in the strongest terms for Elgin High to be included in the first tranche of schools to be built under the next phase of the schools programme.
"We need a better education environment for local pupils and staff at Elgin High."
The Moray MSP said Mr Russell was "well aware" of the need for a new Elgin High School
"I am pleased that he is taking the Moray Council’s bid very seriously," Mr Lochhead said.
