THE trial of a man accused of murdering a police officer who grew up in Moray is due to start today (Monday).
Dale Cregan (29) has pleaded not guilty to murdering Fiona Bone and her colleague Nicola Hughes on September 18 last year.
The officers were responding to a report of a burglary at a house in Hatterseley, Greater Manchester.
PC Bone (32), spent her early years in Duffus and was a pupil at Hopeman Primary School. Her father was an RAF serviceman.
The family moved south when she was in her early teens.
The trial of Cregan is at Preston Crown Court.
Cregan denies murdering the officers, and also denies killing a father and son in Manchester last year. Eight other defendants have been charged in connection with the alleged murders of the father and son.
