ELGIN’S controversial statue could get royal approval when Princess Anne visits the town next month.
Vik Quickly’s Dandy Lion has caused quite a stir since it was unveiled in December, dividing opinion between those who think it is a blot on the landscape and others who find it fun.
As part of a two-day visit to the area the Princess Royal will be able to cast her eye over the artwork as she tours the Castle to Cathedral to Cashmere heritage project, which the Dandy Lion is part of.
On Monday, March 6 she will open Elgin Youth Development Group’s Inkwell Community Kitchen on Francis Place before attending the 50th anniversary of consecration of St. Christopher’s Chapel at Gordonstoun.
The following day she will visit Johnstons of Elgin and visit the Castle to Cathedral to Cashmere tourist trail.
Last month a reveller received treatment for a head injury after falling from the statue.
The Dandy Lion has also been pictured with a traffic cone on top of it, and with a bicycle chained to its tail.
