A PETITION has been launched to save the children’s ward at Dr Gray’s Hospital.
Jaye Thomson started the campaign on Facebook yesterday and already it has amassed more then 4200 signatures – well on the way to its target of 5000.
The move comes after staff at Moray’s flagship hospital were told last week that the children’s ward would be closed to youngsters who need an overnight stay from Friday, August 18.
It means parents could face a round trip of over 100 miles to see their sick children in either Inverness or Aberdeen.
The petition states: "We as residents of Moray demand that NHS Grampian make Ward 2, (Children’s Ward) at Dr Gray’s Hospital a priority.
"It is unacceptable that any child who needs hospital admittance must travel to ARI or Raigmore."
Once it reaches 5000 signatures it will be sent to NHS Grampian chief executive Malcolm Wright.
The health board insists the changes are temporary.
