ACTIVE members of the community are being invited to put their best feet forward and take part in Scotland’s newest walking festival, which gets underway this week in Moray.

The Moray Walking Festival starts on Wednesday night in Dufftown, with a ‘whisky warm up’ whisky-tasting event.

The walks themselves will begin on Thursday, with a total of 33 events planned until the last day of the festival on June 24.

"We’re delighted with the bookings we’ve had so far," said Speyside Glenlivet Councillor Fiona Murdoch, on behalf of the organising committee.

"However, there are still places available on almost all walks. Although people are welcome to turn up on the day and pay on-the-spot, we do recommend booking online through www.moraywalkingfestival.co.uk to avoid disappointment – some walks are already full or close to capacity."

The walking programme is said to include walks for a wide range of abilities in a choice of beautiful locations, from the sandy beaches and cliffs of the Moray Firth coast to the Cairngorms National Park.
