THE Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in Moray is calling on the elderly to mark Older People’s Day by keeping themselves safe.
Older People’s Day was staged yesterday (Tuesday), and the Moray fire service said it had a simple message.
Paul Geddes, the Moray area co-ordinator for prevention and protection, said: "Older People’s Day is about preparing well for, and enjoying, a positive later life.
"We can help with this by offering a free Home Fire Safety Visit which can reduce your chances of being affected by fire. We can help you spot a possible fire hazard, like an overloaded socket.
"It’s easy to miss something in your home. We’ll talk to you about some simple tips and we can also fit smoke alarms free of charge."
In addition, Mr Geddes said that if anyone knows of an older person who could be at risk, then they should get in touch.
Home Fire Safety Visits can be arranged by calling 0800 0731 999 or by texting the word ‘check’ to 61611.
