PATIENTS and visitors to NHS Grampian sites in Moray are being encouraged to have their say on the drawing up of the health board’s new tobacco policy.
According to an NHS Grampian spokesperson, the aim is to have the policy in place by 2014 to meet Government targets of NHS sites becoming smoke-free by March, 2015.
The main changes proposed are: Completely smoke-free grounds; routine offer of help to all smokers on NHS sites; no smoking in uniform or work clothes for staff; and a push to use alternative, safe sources of nicotine to prevent smoke-related harm.
"NHS Grampian has a long-standing commitment to making its premises free from tobacco smoke," the spokesperson said.
"This is expected to cut health costs in Grampian and improve the health of the least well off."
