A PLANNING application had been lodged to turn a former place of worship into a climbing centre.
Elgin South Church, situated at the top of South Guildry Street on the junction with Moray Street, has lain empty for around 10 years.
In that time there had been plans to turn it into a nursery with permission granted to convert the building into six flats.
The application was submitted to Moray Council this week on behalf of Inspirational Enterprises Ltd, which is based at Mosstowie.
Plans include two climbing walls to the east and west sided on the main ground floor area, as well as two boulder rooms, a changing area, store rooms, an office and reception.
There is also a proposal for a small cafe at the rear of the building.
Provision has been made for 10 parking spaces on ground to the west of the church, adjacent to the Moray College campus.
A decision on the application is expected to be made in early September.
