POLICE have confirmed that a body found in the River Spey, near Fochabers, was that of 75-year-old William Robb.
A major police search was instigated after Mr Robb, from the Aberdeen area, was reported missing on Sunday while walking with friends on the Speyside Way.
Police said yesterday (Tuesday) that a body of an elderly man had been discovered in the River Spey, and the search was called off.
Detective Inspector Norman Stevenson said today: "These are very sad circumstances and our sympathy and thoughts are with Mr Robb’s family at this time.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the various agencies and volunteers who assisted with the search including the Mountain Rescue Teams, Search and Rescue Dogs, RAF Helicopter crews, and the charity Skywatch.
"I would also like to thank the media for their coverage and assistance with the appeals."
