Power plant company ditches Moray balloon plan

A company proposing a new power plant in Moray has cancelled an event today (Friday) that was aimed at showing the public the scale of its plan.

Estover Energy has already pitched its plans for a biomass combined heat and power plant, which would be built close to the Macallan Distillery.

The company had planned to fly a helium balloon today and tomorrow at a height of 40 metres, to show the public how tall the proposed new power plant’s chimney would stretch. A marker at the 32 metre point, to indicate the height of the boiler hall, was also planned.

According to Estover, the new plant would use low-grade wood from the local area to generate power.
