PROTESTORS sent a clear message to Moray Council that the closure of their libraries will not be tolerated.

Around 300 people marched through the streets of Burghead at the weekend in support of their village library, which is one of seven community libraries earmarked for closure.

People were also protesting at the council slashing its arts budget by 100%, making it the only local authority in Scotland with no arts budget.

Author Stuart MacBride was among those protesting at the "despicable" decision to axe the libraries.

"We are putting the boot of public outrage to the backside of Moray Council," he declared.

MP Angus Robertson and MSP Richard Lochhead also joined the march and condemned the cuts.

One of the march organiers, Joan Gray, said she was delighted with the turnout despite poor weather.
