A SEVERE shortage of supply teachers is impacting on schools, particularly primaries, and affecting morale, a Moray education chief has admitted.
Moray Council is to publish a special feature in The Times educational supplement in a bid to attract more teachers to Moray.
Laurence Findlay, head of schools and curriculum development, said: “Moray has a number of head teachers who have almost a full-time teaching commitment.
“It is becoming increasingly difficult to meet the demands of running a busy school as well as teaching five or six hours a day.”
Forres Councillor Aaron McLean asked how this was impacting on schools and their leadership.
Speaking at a meeting of the council's children and young people's committee, Mr Findlay admitted there were issues around morale and the education department is trying to work with teachers to see how best they can be supported.
