Spey salmon season starts

ANGLERS will be hoping for tight lines for the start of the Spey fishing season.

The season will open tomorrow with a ceremony on the river’s footbridge at the Alice Littler Park at Aberlour.

A bottle of Glenfarclas whisky will be poured into the Spey and a toast raised to bring luck to those in pursuit of the elusive salmon.

The river will also be blessed by Reverend Shuna Dicks, minister for Craigellachie and Aberlour.

The Spey Quaich will be awarded to the angler who catches the first salmon. They will also receive a bottle of Glenfarclas 30 year old single malt.

There will also be a prize for the heaviest fish.

All catches for must be reported to JAJ Munro Tackle and Countrywear, 77 High Street, Aberlour, 01340 871428 by 4pm tomorrow to enter the competitions.
