THE woman behind the meteoric rise of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival in recent years is moving on to new challenges.
Mary Hemsworth has been manager of the festival for the last three years.
Under the leadership of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival board, Mary has helped to grow the event significantly and has introduced key new attractions to the programme. She leaves the festival in an excellent position to achieve further growth.
She said: “I was a professional photographer before I joined the festival and photography is my first love. I also have my own events management company and will be doing some whisky tourism for various people.
“The last three years have been amazing and the festival has gone from strength to strength."
In the last three years, the financial boost to the Moray economy from the festival has grown from £600,000 to around £2 million.
Festival chairman James Campbell said: “Mary has worked closely with the board to cement the festival’s position as one of the leading events of its type anywhere in the world. Her hard work and input has been instrumental in the festival almost doubling in size and opening up to new global audiences."
