To coincide with the BBC TWO “Stargazing Live” event this week, hosted by Professor Brian Cox, SIGMA – Moray’s Astronomy Club, is hosting a stellar stargazing event to encourage everyone – from the complete beginner to the enthusiastic amateur – to make the most of the night sky.

SIGMA’s event will take place at Lhanbryde Community Centre, Robertson Road on Friday night from 7.30-9.30pm.

The event will include short talks, activities and observing through member’s astronomical telescopes (weather permitting) and is free.

Stan Barber, SIGMA’s chairman said: “We are incredibly excited to be able to put on a fantastic event for all the family as part of the BBC’s Stargazing Live 2014 moment.

“Last year we hosted well over 100 people of all ages and the enthusiasm and interest was absolutely amazing. We even managed to squeeze in some observing during a break in the clouds.

To accompany the TV series, BBC Learning has produced free resources, including a calendar with things to watch out for in the night sky throughout the year as well as fantastic facts on space weather, exploration and the Milky Way and other galaxies.
