Lossiemouth teenager Dion Yates has died.
Dion was first diagnosed in April 2014 at the age of just 14 with Ewing’s Sarcoma – a rare form of bone cancer.
After receiving both chemotherapy and radiotherapy she appeared to make a full recovery.
However, in September 2016, the cancer returned and was later pronounced to be terminal.
In May this year, more than 40 supporters walked 19 miles from Findhorn to Lossiemouth to show their solidarity with Dion who was a keen kickboxer.
The Fast Program ‘#DoIt4Dion’ Fitness Festival - a five-hour fitness marathon this coming Saturday – was organised before today’s tragic announcement.
At the time of writing, the event is still scheduled to take place, commencing at noon at Lossiemouth FC.
It will feature five different hour-long classes, plus light refreshments and a DJ.
The original version of this article wrongly stated that the event will be on Sunday. We apologise for the error.
