A HUGE collection of historical plans in Moray is in need of archiving.
Moray Council’s local heritage service has become custodian of the plans from a leading firm of local architects.
Now volunteers are being sought to help put the contents of the 15,000 documents into an online catalogue that will eventually also contain digitised copies of the plans.
They have been placed in the care of the council’s local heritage service over a number of years by long-established architectural firm Wittets, who have offices in Elgin and Skye.
Spanning 150 years, the plans represent an unrivalled record of buildings across Moray, the north-east of Scotland and Skye. The buildings featured range from Skibo Castle to outside toilets and include schools, war memorials, country houses, farm buildings, business premises and much more.
Councillor Anne Skene, chairman of Moray Council’s children and young people’s services committee, said: "We are privileged to have this wonderful collection in our care and it is excellent that details of these architects’ plans will be made available via the internet.
Anyone who would like to volunteer to become involved in the project should contact Moray Council records manager Eleanor Rowe on 01343 562633 or by e-mail at eleanor.rowe@moray.gov.uk
