VOTERS in next week’s Moray Council by-election are being reminded that the single transferable vote system will be in use.
It means those going to the polls will make their choice of candidates by using numbers on the ballot paper.
They will number the candidates in order of preference by marking a 1 next to their first choice, a 2 next to their second choice and so on.
Voters can make as many or as few choices as they wish and do not have to number every candidate.
Moira Patrick, depute returning officer, said: "Whether voting in person at the polling station or by post, I would advise all voters to read the instructions at the top of the ballot paper carefully before filling it in so they can be sure their choices count."
There are six candidates for the Heldon and Laich by-election, which takes place on Thursday (March 7) with the count taking place at Lossiemouth Town Hall the following day.
