FORRES Mechanics warmed up for their big date with Rangers by smashing six past Strathspey Thistle.

RAF serviceman Scott Lawrie hit a hat-trick as the Cans beat the Grantown men 6-1 at Mosset Park.

It was the perfect way for Charlie Rowley’s team to prepare for next Saturday’s huge Scottish Cup clash against Rangers.

Lawrie and strike partner Kyle Scott both netted in the first half, and after Jags pulled one back, Lawrie’s second from the spot was quickly by Scott’s second and a fifth by Scotty Moore.

Lawrie wrapped up the scoring by completing his first ever Highland League treble.

Elsewhere, Cammy Keith was Keith’s two-goal hero as they upset on-form Buckie Thistle with a 2-1 success at Victoria Park.

Zander Sutherland had put the Jags ahead before Keith’s brace earned a 2-1 win.

Top played bottom at Grant Park, with lowly Lossiemouth going down 3-1 to leaders Nairn County. Former Lossie man Mike Morrison put Nairn in front and a Connor Gethins double clinched the points, after Tony Ross had made it 2-1 with a home goal.

Huntly went third thanks to Polish hitman Lukasz Stasiak, whose double was enough to give the Tigers a 2-1 triumph over Turriff.

Rothes went down to a brace of Stuart McKay goals in the space of two minutes as they lost 2-0 to Inverurie Locos.

Elsewhere, Deveronvale crushed Fort William 7-1 and Steve Paterson’s Formartine United were beaten for the first time this season in the league, losing 2-1 at Cove.

Brora Rangers’ poor run continued with a 2-1 home loss to Clach, for whom former Elgin City player Graham Tatters scored.

The final Highland League match saw Wick beat Fraserburgh 4-1.
