Dufftown end Vale's winning run

AN INJURY time winner helped Dufftown secure their first win at Simpson Park in a decade.

Ruari Watt grabbed the decisive goal from close range as the Speysiders ended Islavale’s eight game winning streak.

The win put Dufftown firmly in the division one west promotion race.

Dufftown co-manager Steven Rattray said: "Considering that was our first game in four weeks, while Islavale have been playing week in and week out, I thought it said a lot for our players that we got progressively better as the minutes passed.

A crowd of around 200 had packed Simpson Park for the eagerly awaited game.

Scott Johnson had opened the scoring for Dufftown on 75 minutes before Nathan Sharp headed Islavale level soon after.

The result alllowed Inverness City to open up a four point gap at the top of the league thanks to their 6-1 win over Fochabers.

In the Superleague, New Elgin went goal crazy at home to Stonehaven, running out 5-0 winners. Their scorers were Lee Shanks, Gary Mackenzie, Connor Mackenzie, Daniel Forde and Duncan McPhee.
