ELGIN City inflicted a Valentine's Day massacre as they thumped Peterhead 6-1, much to the delight of manager Ross Jack.
On the day Jack announced he has signed a new two-year deal at Borough Briggs, his players went to town on the Blue Toon with a magnificent performance.
“That's as good as it gets,” said the manager after Tuesday night's romp, “I'm just delighted.”
“From back to front the effort never dropped and without being unfair to Peterhead, I think six flattered them.
“We know there's performances like that in us and we just need to do it on a more regular basis.”
City moved three points closer to the play-off zone with their win, and are in fine fettle for the visit of leaders Alloa this weekend.
It did take three own goals to help the Black and Whites on their way, but their syuperiority was never in any doubt.
After a string of missed chances early on, including a Brian Cameron shot off the bar, Elgin were rewarded with a goal in 24 minutes in bizarre circumstances.
Peterhead midfielder David Ross's passback was completely missed by his keeper Paul Jarvie and trundled in for an own goal.
City struck the Peterhead bar for a second time just before the break, Daniel Moore so close to netting against his former team.
But the contest was effectively done and dusted within ten minutes of the second half starting as the Moray men added two quick goals.
Firstly, Paul Millar cracked home from a partially cleared corner, before Peterhead striker Rory McAllister then headed a Daniel Moore corner into his own net to make it 3-0.
A Moore shot deflected in off Callum Macdonald on 70 minutes to add to Peterhead's woes, though Jamie Redman did head one in for the visitors ten minutes later.
Cameron and Gunn completed the scoring with a quickfire double at the death, much to the delight of the home support.
Elgin: Clark, Niven, MacPhee, Beveridge (O'Donoghue 9), Duff, Leslie, Gunn, Cameron, Millar (McMullan 65), Nicolson (Wilson 77), Moore.
