Horne heroics can't prevent Rothes defeat

NOT even the heroics of goalkeeper Ricky Horne could save Rothes from defeat at Fraserburgh on Saturday.

The Speysiders took an early lead at Bellslea Park before going down 4-1 in a match captured by the SHFLtv cameras (see highlights below).

Callum McIntosh’ shot gave Rothes a shock lead and Horne kept Broch at bay with a string of fine saves.

But in the second half Graham Johnston levelled, and a perfect hat-trick by Peter Alexander Bruce scoring with left and right foot and header earned Fraserburgh full points.

The match has a special mascot in young Isla McNab, who was born prematurely and developed cerebral palsy spastic diplegia, which affects her ability to walk.

An operation to help her walk independently cannot be done in the UK but is available in Missouri, USA, and a campaign has been launched to raise the £65,000 needed to make Isla’s dream come true. (Donations via Isla's dream).

Next game up in SHFLtv’s schedule is Wednesday night’s match between Strathspey Thistle and leaders Brora Rangers.

On the same evening, Buckie Thistle visit Rothes’ conquerors Fraserburgh, while Lossiemouth can draw level with Keith on 20 points if they win away to bottom side Fort William.

There will also be a re-match at banff of Saturday’s Cove Rangers v Deveronvale ‘battle’, which resulted in two players from each team being red carded.

Huntly host Clach in the other match.
