A DEPLETED Elgin City were no match for Albion Rovers at Coatbridge.
Barry Wilson's side were on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline at Cliftonhill.
Ciaran Donnelly put the home side ahead after just four minutes.
And Liam Cusack curled home a great second after 13 minutes.
On the stroke of half-time Gary Phillips put Albion into a commanding three goal lead.
City boss Wilson made two changes at the interval, Sam Urquhart coming on for youngster Connor Macaulay and Mark Nicolson on for Ally McKenzie.
And Dennis Wyness gave Elgin a lifeline just two minutes after the restart.
Keeper Stuart Black, given another start in the team by Wilson, fouled Cusack inside the box in the 52nd minute to concede a penalty which Scott Chaplain converted to make it 4-1.
Shane Sutherland reduced the deficit to two goals when he fired in a right footed shot from outside the box with 21 minutes remaining.
However, Chaplaing wrapped up the win with a fifth goal with just over 10 minutes remaining.
With Queens Park making it back to back wins with a 4-1 success at East Stirling, they are now just seven points adrift of second bottom Elgin with six games left to play and the teams meet at Borough Briggs on April 5.
