Manager Ross Jack’s rallying call for the supporters to boost City’s Division 3 play-off aspirations comes in the wake of Tuesday night’s sensational 6-1 triumph over Peterhead.

Jack hopes the shot in morale which the midweek result gave his team can give them added momentum to go on and defeat runaway leaders Alloa at Borough Briggs on Saturday.

He feels a big turnout could help to spur a similar performance to Tuesday’s, but is warning his players not to get too carried away by one spectacular result.

“It was a great night. The players gave the kind of performance which really shows what they are capable of,” Ross said.

“Full credit to the fans who came down. Considering the weather, the fact that it was Valentine’s Day and there were televised matches on, the crowd was great.

“They were rewarded in style with an outstanding performance, and it would be fantastic if we get a big attendance on Saturday, hopefully to cheer the players on to produce the goods again.”

Tuesday’s success was Elgin’s biggest win with Jack in charge, and only the second time they have scored six goals in a Scottish League match.

Borough Briggs was buoyant at full time, but Jack is keen to keep City feet on the ground in preparation for Saturday’s clash against a team currently sitting eight points clear at the top of Division 3.

“As good a performance as it was, we can’t afford to get too carried away. We have to make sure we are fully prepared for what will be another massive match on Saturday.

“Alloa have been on an incredible run of wins and goals, and we need to be on the front foot from the start against them on Saturday.

“It will be a very different game to the Peterhead one, and we will need to produce the same level of performance to get a result. But we are more than capable of doing that.”
