Annan Athletic 2, Elgin City 1
GOALKEEPER Raymond Jellema was red carded as Elgin City slipped to defeat at Annan Athletic.
Jellema was shown a straight red card for a foul on Matthew Flynn in the 77th minute.
Stuart Black replaced Jellema in goal and striker Dennis Wyness was the outfield player sacrificed to make the change.
Scott Davidson levelled from the resultant penalty kick for the home side.
Looking for their first away win in four games, Shane Sutherland had headed Elgin ahead midway through the second half.
However, Jellema's dismissal turned the game on its head.
Annan grabbed the winner in the 84th minute when Kenny Mackay fired home.
The result leaves Elgin six points off a play-off place and second bottom of League Two.
Ross Jack's side travel to top of the table Peterhead on January 2. The Blue Toon extended their lead at the top to two points with a 3-1 win at Berwick Rangers.
Black could come in for Jellema for the New Year visit to Balmoor while Jack (pictured) may yet look to bring in an experienced no.1 as cover for Jellema who will be suspended.
After a goalless first half at Galabank, City looked to be heading for a much needed win when Shane Sutherland headed home from close range.
