With manager Barry Wilson away on holiday, Elgin City opened their pre season programme with a 3-1 win at Lossiemouth.
Assistant boss Graham Bayne took charge, but said Wilson was demanding updates while he enjoyed a break overseas.
“He’s been texting and he was on Facetime last night, and when I get home tonight I’m sure he’ll be on Facetime again,” Graham said.
“Fortunately we didn’t have wi-fi in the ground or he would have been looking for a live feed to his ipad. I can’t even get rid of him when he’s on the other side of the world.”
Bayne watched trialist Archie MacPhee impress in City’s victory over their Highland League neighbours.
MacPhee had been granted permission by Nairn County to feature in City’s friendlies, and the player is expected to sign for City when his Nairn deal expires in a fortnight.
“He was outstanding,” said Bayne. “When we got the ball to him he was switching it quickly and bringing others in to play.”
Former Ross County keeper Mike Fraser and ex-Inverness stopper Matthew Cooper both made their first appearances since their summer moves to Elgin. Winger Daniel Moore and full back Gordon Finlayson, two more who signed for the club in May, also started in a strong City line-up.
Moore crossed for Ally MacKenzie to head a fifth minute opener, and Craig Gunn made it 2-0 from the spot after Moore was fouled by Scott Dunn on 36 minutes.
Darryl McHardy punished a Lossie defensive error to make it 3-0 after the break, while a mistake by Ceiran McLean at the other end allowed Shawn Scott to tee up sub Jordan McBain for a home consolation on 78 minutes.
