GRUMPY Gretna wouldn’t play ball after being blitzed by five-goal Buckie Thistle striker John McLeod on Saturday.
The red-hot Highlander claimed the matchball after his impressive haul in Jags’ 6-2 Scottish Cup second round replay win at Raydale Park.
However, Lowland League Gretna refused to give McLeod a souvenir of his special day.
“They told me matchballs are too expensive so I couldn’t have it. It would have been nice to keep and get all the boys to sign it.”
McLeod has now scored an incredible 29 goals in nineteen starts for Jags since making the summer move from Brora Rangers.
Saturday was the second time he has scored five goals in a match for Buckie.
He is on the brink of breaking through the 30-goal barrier in November, and could do it in Saturday’s Aberdeenshire Cup final against Cove Rangers at Turriff.
Interview with Buckie goal hero McLeod and a look ahead to Saturday’s big match in this week’s Northern Scot print edition.
