Vale held by resilient Rothes

ROTHES caused a Highland League upset by holding title chasers Deveronvale to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

With all the other teams in the bottom five it was a good day for the MacKessack Park side.

Former Speysiders’ striker Kris Duncan put Vale into a first half, but Stuart Massie levelled for the home side, who had captain Michael Dunn sent off in the last minute.

Lossiemouth were victims to the Steven MacKay show at Brora, as the former Elgin City midfielder netted five in a 6-0 romp for the Sutherland men.

Buckie Thistle led Fraserburgh at the break through a Zander Sutherland strike, but the Buchan men scored three times in the second half, including two in the final five minutes.

Keith beat bottom side Fort William 3-0 in Lochaber with Cammy Keith scoring twice and Stuart Walker adding a third late on.

For the second time this season Huntly conceded six to former manager Steve Paterson’s high flying Formartine United.

The Pitmedden men were 3-0 up Christie Park inside 11 minutes and netted a fourth before the break, with Jason Coyle’s second half goal for Huntly proving to be a crumb of consolation.

Elsewhere, Cove won the match of the day by beating fellow challengers Nairn 3-1, Wick stayed second by thumping Turriff 6-2 and Inverurie defeated Strathspey 5-0.

The Forres Mechanics v Clachnacuddin clash was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
