A 3-0 win over Division 3 leaders Alloa had Elgin City manager Ross Jack lavishing praise on his players.
Following the 6-1 mauling of Peterhead in midweek, Jack was happy to see his team rise to the occasion and convincingly defeat the Wasps.
“Alloa are a tremendous side but we showed what we are all about today,” he said. “From the word go we knew what our task and we quickly got ourselves on the front foot.
“To score after 40-odd seconds, you couldn't ask for a better start and it set the tempo.
“We didn't back off after that, we stayed on the front foot and played some great stuff considering the conditions. So I'm delighted.”
Paul Millar shot City in front after just 45 seconds, and top scorer Craig Gunn added a second on 36 minutes after great work on the right by Brian Cameron.
Alloa hit the bar with a free kick and threatened to get back in the game but were floored when another Cameron cross was tucked away by Stuart Leslie on 67 minutes to wrap up the points.
Manager Jack revealed how he very nearly had a goalkeeping crisis at the start of the match with first choice Zander Clark feeling sick before the match, while his deputy John Calder injured himself in the warm-up.
“Zander probably wouldn't have played if John hadn't gone over his ankle and wasn't fit to play.
“We went with Zander even though he had sickness and diarrhoea. Thankfully he didn't have much to do in the game.”
City remain five points off the play-offs but are hitting form going into a hectic schedule of matches.
Strong at home this term but struggling to get results on their travels, they will need to find some away form for the trips to Clyde on Tuesday night and Montrose next Saturday.
Centre back Jamie Duff, who won the man of the match award on Saturday, said the onus is now on the team to cure their travel sickness.
“We don't fear going away and we know we can produce the same form on our travels,” he said.
“This run of games has come at the right time for us and we just can't wait to get to Tuesday and the Clyde game.”
