Wild winds save struggling Keith

LADY Luck smiled on Keith after the Kynoch Park club’s Aberdeenshire Shield tie at Deveronvale was abandoned on Tuesday night.Cammy Keith in action for the Maroons.

Vale led the 10-man Maroons 3-1 midway through the second half when ref Morag Pirie halted the match due to high winds at Princess Royal Park.

Keith looked destined to be going out of the competition but now have a second chance to try and get the better of their Banff opponents.

Sean Keith had fired Darren Still’s side into a first half lead with a free kick, before Craig Cowie levelled before the break.

Vale took control with a second Cowie strike and a wind assisted 30 yarder by former Lossiemouth man John Urquhart made it 3-1 only moments before Pirie pulled the plug on the contest.

The tie is expected to be replayed next week along with the Buckie Thistle v Fraserburgh match, which was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

One tie did get played, with Cove Rangers netting nine goals for the second match running to romp past non-league Aberdeen University 9-1.

Both Highland League games were cancelled, as Clach v Nairn and Turriff v Formartine fell victim to the bad weather.
