New youth cricket league launched

A NEW youth cricket league designed to provide a pathway for young players from Kwik Cricket to senior cricket has been launched. The Gordon Baxter Youth League will see five teams compete against each other this season home and away. Youngsters from Nairn, Forres, Huntly, Gordonstoun and a Moray Cricket Association combined team will take part in the inaugural league. The latter will have members from the Fochabers, Buckie, Keith and Elgin clubs.

Frankie goes for Olympic glory

FRANKIE Barton hopes his Olympic dream will come true this weekend. The Keith and District runner's aspiration to represent the West Indian twin islands of his birth, St Kitts and Nevis, at the London 2012 Olympics will be determined in the unlikely surroundings of Fort William this Sunday.

FRANKIE Barton remains hopeful the Olympic door has not shut on his dream of representing St Kitts and Nevis at London 2012. Barton's first ever marathon at Lochaber on Sunday saw him go well for the first 20 miles but suffer severe cramp in the closing six miles.

MARTIAL ARTS coach Lee Sansum has been honoured for his work by Scotland's national sports body. Sansum has been named sportscotland Moray Development Coach of the Year.
